AdvancedAlthough signing up to PSN and creating an account is fairly straightforward, there are numerous steps in the process. Here’s our step-by-step overview guide to creating your first account (a Master Account).
Note: Before you can sign up you may be required to update your system software.
Also the process below may vary depending on your country.
Account sign-up
- To begin, go to the “Playstation Network” menu and choose Sign up for Playstation Network
- Now the account creation begins. Since this is our first time signing up, choose Create a new account
- This screen explains what information you will need to provide during the process. Choose Continue
- Select your country, language and date of birth
- Date of birth determines what account type will be created. If you are 18+, you will get a Master Account. Otherwise you will get a Sub-account. Learn more about accounts.
- See also: countries supported by PSN)
- The terms of service and user agreement / privacy policy will now be shown. Choose Accept
- Enter sign-in information: a valid email address (sign-in ID), password, and security question.
- Enter your desired Online ID
- The online ID will be your publicly viewable username.
- It is not possible to change your online ID once your account is created.
- If you continually get the message “The online ID you entered cannot be used” then it may already be in use. Also, there are keywords that are not allowed – for example having “PS3″ anywhere in the online ID. For more help, see common problems.
- Enter your full name. Choose your gender if you wish (optional)
- Enter your street address (residential address). Country/region is pre-filled by your selection earlier
- Notification preferences. Tick any of the boxes if you’d like to receive marketing from Sony and/or affiliates
- Review the details you’ve entered, then select Confirm
- Account has been created!
- You may be asked to answer a questionare/survey. Choose Yes or No
- Choose an avatar (picture) for your account if you wish. It is easy to change it later at any time.
- Welcome to Playstation Network. You can Proceed to Playstation Store if you want. This will prompt you to Sign In. Exit the Store to return to the XMB menu.
- Now that you have signed up, the Friends menu will have new options like Message Box. You will also be shown here!
Start using your account
- Play online games (e.g. multiplayer modes in LittleBigPlanet or MotorStorm)
- Use Playstation Store (under Network menu) to download demos and videos and purchase games
- Experience Sixaxis motion control

I created an account. I live in CANADA but had to us a USA address. Here is what I used as an address. Not what I want but gets my kid on line for now

Another Canadian here unable to create an account @ PlayStation Network. I emailed them about the problem and all they suggested was to use another address. So I just emailed them back to let them know that NO Canadian addresses work. For now it looks like its no go for us.
that sucks… but somehow for mmy brothers ps3 he got past the adress so maybe he can help us???
ok i just got a ps3, and i restored my ps3 and i forgot my ps3 account, im trying to make a new ps3 account but when i get to the email screen i tipe my email address in perfect and it says, The sign-in ID (email address) or password is incorrect. can someone please help me i dont know whats going on.

I made sure my internet connection was alright and it was. Any suggestions?
When registering your address with your account fill in the street address with your correct address but when putting the postal code, city, and province use the following information:
Postal Code: L1N 5V8
City: Whitby
Province: Ontario

hi,i just turned my PS3 on to sign in to playstation network,but for the past 6 months its never said this….
so tryed signin my password in n it said the account has already been associated with a different user on this system….
wat does this mean??

i already have a exsisting sub account for my ps3 but i have now created a master account on it how do i use the master account to switch off the parental controls on online games so i can play online on my sub account if someone could answer this question i would appreciate it

I am from Mauritius and i had not choice than to register my PS3 on outh Africa since my country is not listed. Now, i can not do any purchase online. Is there any solution to update and change my country so that i may use my billing address.

Can i change a sub account into my master acount? as my acount was originaly a sub acount when my brother stayed with me using his ps3, but when he moved out and i got my own ps3 it wont let me make my own account the master account?

I used to have the big ps3 and recently changed to the small version. I sold the big version, and now i cant download video from playstation store. It tells me that you may not use this feature another ps3 system is activated to your account deactivate other ps3 system to activate this one so i can watch movies. Regarding error 8001050F: there is a
worldwide mystery bug for older PS3s. Sony are working on it. Check the official PS blog for more info.

I bought my PS3 in the UK where I live. Currently Im seconded to a long term project in Asia, and just recently discover I cant use the LBP addons and packs since Im registered in the UK. This is really short sited for people like me who lives internationally (3 to 6 months in different countries globally).
