One of the nice features of the old Playstation 2 controllers (the Dualshock 2s) were their vibration motors which provided what is known as “rumble”. With the Playstation 3′s SIXAXIS controllers, Sony removed the rumble and introduced a new, different feature: motion sensors.
Undoubtably the Sixaxis motion control is a terrific way to interact with games but wouldn’t it be ideal if our controllers could have both rumble and motion sensors? Well now we can!
Sony’s new Dualshock 3
- Vibration feedback motors (rumble)
- Motion sensors (Sixaxis)
- Connects wirelessly via Bluetooth or wired via USB
- Built-in rechargable battery
- Same size & look as the original PS3 controller, but a nicer weight to it
Our rating
The DS3 feels great. If you want rumble and motion in a solid controller, this is the one. Only negative is it will need recharging more often if you are using rumble a lot.

Games that rumble
Most PS3 games support rumble, newer releases particularly. Some games like MotorStorm and Resistance: Fall of Man will support rumble if you download an update for them.
Here are some games that got my Dualshock 3 rumbling:
- Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune
Gunshots, explosions, falling, crumbling ledges, there is vibration everywhere and it feels great! - Folklore
Locking onto Ids produces a gentle vibration and yanking them out gives a stronger burst - Snakeball
Explosions, bumps - Final Fantasy XII
In fact, any PS2 games that has rumble will work!
