Create a new user

Here are the easy step-by-step instructions:

  1. Go to the Users menu in the XMB (Cross Media Bar)[Screenshot]
  2. Choose Create New User
  3. Enter a name for the user and then choose OK[Screenshot]
  4. The new user will now be shown in the menu, ready for use![Screenshot]

    I’ve brought a second hand ps3 & want to install a bigger hard drive, but un fortunatly im gonna loose my trophies i’ve earned , is it possible when i back up my game data can i then save it to a new user & start a new PSN account & resume playin my games to get my trophies back

      Hi Cj – I upgraded my harddrive recently. There’s a Backup/Restore feature under the PS3′s System Settings menu. This allows you to backup all downloaded games, game saves, etc. if you want to.

      But… trophies are stored online to your PSN account. When you replace the HDD your PS3 still knows what users you have and restores them automatically, then you sign in and the trophies are retrieved. Just make sure you sync your trophies before replacing the HDD.

      I did have an issue with it though, that when I went back to play a game I would suddenly lose all that game’s trophies. This was fixable by firstly doing a Compare Trophies with one of my friends and somehow that re-sync’d everything.

        Cheers, but the problem i have is that cause i dont know the PSN account details i cant retreive my trophies, so is it possible to save all data to a new user, create a new account & resume playin? I copied the data to the new user file but when i went to continue with my progress it would not let me resume my career mode in fifa 10,. Is there a way to continue my progress or am i stuffed?
        & if i back it up, install a new drive will it just do the same thing??

        i was wandering, my 80gb ps3 got the ylod….but i bought a new ps3 slim 320gb, how do i take all the username accounts from my 80gb and put it onto the ps3 slim 320 gb? can i just put my 80gb harddrive into the ps3 slim and format it and itll just erase everything except my usernames or are all my usernames attached to the ps3 80gb fatboy only and ill have to retype all my accounts onto the ps3 slim. but i dont remember some of my passwords for some of my accounts, plz help

        PS3 hard-drives are encrypted specific to each console, so swapping them won’t help.

        I think you’ll just have to recreate the Users on the new PS3 and re-add their PSN account details (choose “Use existing sign-in” after going to “Sign up for Playstation Network”). There is an option for recovering lost passwords there too.

        You could try copying the game saves from the old User to the new User. Some games do not allow it though.

    when i try to creat a new user on ps3,,,, I’m using my email address. when I get to a certain spot of my user name, it starts underlining the letters i type in. when I press “start” to add/finish it,,, it just erases everything that was underlined. so dumb and frustrating pls help

      You would have to copy the image file to the PS3, plug it in via USB and try copying it.  Then set your background.

    If you make a new user account, does it partition/divide the hard drive in anyway? Like does each user have certain space allocation or something along those lilnes

      All users share the one partition.  It would be impractical to partition the hard drive for every User.

        mine partitioned the available memory on the drive.  I couldn’t download the update to ME3 because I didn’t have enough “available memory”, even after deleting every downloaded game, photo album, and game save we weren’t currently using.  I checked the allocation on System Information and it said I only had 1400+ available (needed over 1700 for the patch).  I had to delete two of the user accounts on the machine and when I did, my available memory went up to about 4400.
