AdvancedOnline ID can not be used
The phrase “The online ID you entered cannot be used” is very common when you are trying to sign up for a Playstation Network account. It may be because the ID you want does not meet the rules or simply that it is already taken by someone else.
You will need to choose another ID. Suggestions:
- Try adding numbers e.g. billy888
- Try adding hyphens (-) or underscores (_) e.g. billy_the-kid
- Does your ID contain words? Some words/terms are not allowed e.g. “PS3″
Profile name
The online ID (profile name) that you choose when signing up for a Playstation Network account gets locked in. There is no facility to edit/change the ID. So pick one you are not going to regret 
Profile avatar
It’s possible to change your PSN avatar, but the images are restricted to those provided by Sony. It’s not currently possible to use your own image; we assume this is to prevent “improper” avatars.

Country not available when signing up
If your country is not available as an option when signing up to Playstation Network (see list of supported countries) then you are out of luck. However, if you are willing to go against the terms and conditions–which tell you not to provide incorrect details–then it is possible to sign up using details that are valid for another country (e.g. United States). Search online to find more information.

Sometimes you may get these errors:
An error occurred during communication with the server.
This is a DNS error.

It seems to only happen occasionally and most likely due to the PSN servers having some temporary glitches. Try again, but if the problem persists you may need to come back later.

Sarah,Wish I could help,but I`m struggling to sign up, the network doesnt want to accept any of my Online Id`s(Nickname) I type in,wich one should I use?
Barry, do you mean you’re getting the “The online ID you entered cannot be used” message? You need to keep trying different words/combinations that will produce a unique ID that is not used by anyone else.
I don’t know if this is a common problem but my ps3 will play ps2 games but won’t regognize ps3 games anymore and i just played erlier today? is it retarded?

Swimmer: What are you trying to do that you get that error? Often retrying or quitting out of the action and going back in will resolve it.
I am annoyed that I have to give up all this personal info if I want any free demos. Does Sony really need to grill people for A/S/L info like some kind of online stalker? Why don’t they just ask for a SSN too and run your credit while they’re at it?
I shouldn’t have to sign up for anything just to browse what’s new.

Hi folks. We have just bought a 2nd PS3 for my son to use in his bedroom. He has played COD4 online extensively on the original machine using his sub account created under my master account. How do we log in or set up his new machine so he can continue to play using his saved data (which is held at the COD server I believe)? Any ideas? Thanks for your time…
I would like to know how to get a new password for my PSN account. I recently bought Metal Gear Solid 4 and want to play online but I forgot the fake birthday I put on the account (which I made almost a year and half ago) I just would like to see what I put as a birthday and possible change it instead of having to create another account. I went to the official playstaion network and typed in my email address to get a new pass word and so far nothing has come. Do you have any ideas what I could do?
I dont know but for now on if you are too young then just put your real birthday but change the year. and always the same year for everything online so you can remember it in case you have to type it in again.

hii, im having the same problem no matter what i put in on the online ID screen it keeps saying cannot use online ID someone help ive been trying for ages and its annoying me now.
I called sony , They assured me they are aware of this problem and it will be fixed in the next 24-48 hours. Hang Tight guys

wow this is truly ridiculous i have been trying to make an online id for about three hours now and nothing i mean nothing works i know that there is not that many names taken especially when i just type in alot of letters and numbers out of no where

Im getting the DNS signing in error too, it’s a rite pain….I am fully connected to my wireless cos I have signal but it just wont sign me into the playstation network. I see on other forums that a lot of people are having the same problem…people on other forums seem to have had the problem but when they reset there router or just waited for a while it worked again.
However mine doesn’t anyone else having the same prob, or had the same prob and fixed it.

Hi, I have a problem making a sub-account on the PSN. I am underage and my father made the master account yesterday. The problem is when he types in his User ID (e-mail) and password it says they are not correct. But when he signs into to his account it takes it and lets’s him in. Any suggestions.

Well I bought my PS3 on the 15th or 16th, and have been trying every day with a few different account names and it still doesn’t work
I guess I’ll call support myself and see what they say.

Nevermind, I found a tag that worked. I’m pretty sure the ones I was trying before weren’t taken, but who knows. Also I tried one that worked, and before I finished making my account, I went back to change some of the info, and when I tried the handle that worked it no longer did. Sony really needs to get this part fixed

in regards to your wireless router, do you have access to all the router settings? Assuming you have your wireless network properly configured, you’ll need to get your SSID, type of authentication (WEP, WPA, etc) and passcode. The other things you get prompted for you can leave at default settings.
hey i got my ps3 about a week ago and i couldnt make a psn account i kept getting error 80710d23 it also said a connection to the server couldnt be established so i made my psn account on my pc but i keep getting the same error when i log so do any of u get this problem or is it just me
is anyone else having this problem? I continualy getting signed out of psn, but my internet is still connected, I know this cause my PC and laptop are still conneted to the net… someone please help… it getting really irratating now, im on the verge of smashing my ps3 lol
ok well i had that problem a lot i had a belkin G router so my connection was really bad but when i got a belkin N my connection was perfect so for me it was becuse of my router it mite be the same for you
